This 1857 Three Cent Silver Gem progresses naturally from sunset-orange to twilight to midnight blue to sunrise-yellow anticipating a new day. The reverse picks up where the obverse leaves off, only later into the night with a fuller, sunrise spectrum radiating at the periphery. And the luster. It shimmers underneath both sides effortlessly as if looking at ocean waves reflecting the moonlight. The multiple clashmarks (especially an arrow in the upper obverse), die cracks, and overall late die states only invigorate further numismatic study and attribution. What a way to start or add to a collection.
