Description
Description:I found a number of beautiful Royal Bayreuth in NJ at auction and have used a few of the pieces over the years.
Now that I'm in Florida, these are a bit too formal.
The set includes 12 small bowls that measure 5-5/8" in diameter and 1-3/18" high. Technically, I think this is a berry bowl, but it works very well for small desserts or ice cream.
The pattern is gold trim with dots and scrolls with a scalloped edge.
The plate is a lovely bone color.
The pattern may be Patrician, but I have been unable to confirm that.
The mark indicates Germany US Zone which dates these from the 1950's.
Following World War II, the Allied powers divided Germany west of the Oder-Neisse line into four zones: American, British, French and Soviet. The American zone included the states of Bavaria, Hesse, northern portions of Baden-Württemberg, and the ports of Bremen and Bremerhaven. The American military government was headquartered in the former IG Farben Building in Frankfurt.
In May 1949, the three western zones (American, British, and French) were merged to created the Federal Republic of Germany. The Soviets created the German Democratic Republic out of their zone in October 1949.
